Mid-List Press publishes fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books of high literary merit and fresh artistic vision by new and emerging writers and by writers ignored, marginalized, or excluded from publication by commercial publishers. Mid-List seeks to increase access to publication for new writers, nurture the growth of emerging writers, and increase the diversity of books, authors, and readers. Mid-List is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit literary organization.
Mid-List publishes only book-length works. Fiction and nonfiction manuscripts must be at least 50,000 words in length. Poetry collections must be at least 60 pages in length (single-spaced, each poem beginning a new page). Mid-List Press does not publish children's books. Before submitting, please visit our website at www.midlist.org to see if your manuscript is appropriate to our list.
Note: Mid-List Press no longer sponsors the First Series Awards. All writers, whether previously published or not, should now submit according to the following guidelines:
- Do not submit your entire manuscript.
- Query first by mail with a representative sample-chapter, a short story, an essay, a few poems. (At this time, we are not accepting emailed or faxed queries.)
- Do not include an SASE with your query. We will respond only if we are interested in seeing your entire manuscript.
- Include a phone number and/or e-mail address with your query.
